News of July : Hints and tips from Les Plumes Hotel

Categories : Hotel, published on : 7/15/14

The News of July are concerning an innovative gastronomic experience, the art world of the 1920s and the forward thinking design concepts of today; all yours with the compliments of Les Plumes Hotel. Paris is famous for many things, but some in particular that spring to mind when the City of Light is mentioned are creative cuisine, the way in which the city has for generations been open and welcoming to those at the forefront of artistic creation, and how we lead the way in style. So these are the themes we have chosen this month.

F for Frites, A for Avant-Garde and D for Design

Paris has long been a haven for artistic, creative people. Everyone is familiar with the classic image of the painter in his garret, gazing from his skylight at the zinc rooftops of Paris and pursuing his Bohemian lifestyle. From Impressionism to the Jazz generation and the Beat writers, Paris has again and again proved to be receptive to new ideas. Art’s avant-garde movement found fertile soil here in which to grow, as demonstrated during the 1920s when Paris became the home of the experimental Swedish Ballet company. A current retrospective tells the tale as detailed below. Today the city retains her open minded attitude towards the new, as Paris Design Week demonstrates regularly. But before we get into art and design, we’d like to tell you about a place where you can find the best designer French fries in Paris. Let us take you on a short stroll…

Maison F, taking French fries to new heights

Less than fifteen minutes’ walk from the Hotel Les Plumes you will find Maison F, a restaurant with a very unusual speciality. Here, frites are the name of the game. Yes, delicious gourmet chips in all kinds of different sizes, shapes, textures and colours, served with house ketchup and an amazing mayonnaise rich with herbs and spices. However, if you have an eye on your waistline, remember that this charming, informal and cordial eatery serves all kinds of delightful dishes in addition to those wonderful frites. All ingredients are guaranteed fresh and are locally sourced, so tuck in and enjoy!

The Swedish Ballet, 1920-1925, An Avant-Garde Company

Just a few minutes away from Les Plumes Hotel an exhibition rich with cultural insight and a fascinating period of the history of the arts awaits. The Swedish Ballet, 1920 – 1925, An Avant-Garde Company is a retrospective running at the Bibliothèque-Musée de l'Opéra -Palais Garnier- until September 28th. Founded by a Swedish nobleman, the company pioneered bold new directions in artistic and performing arts fusions and worked with such talents as Debussy, Satie, Cole Porter, Cocteau and Fernand Léger. Many artifacts of the period, such as photographs, costumes and sketches, are on view, including many never before publicly displayed.

Paris Design Week shows the wave of the future

French and international trade and casual observers flock together in the city where style is a way of life for the Paris Design Week. From September 8th to 14th the city bursts with design excitement and venues everywhere showcase exhibitions, displays, workshops, demonstrations and the eagerly anticipated launch of brand new collections. Paris Design Week is the world’s barometer for forecasting the new trends and getting a glimpse into tomorrow. Art and Design, Digital Design, Design and Architecture, Design in France; these are just some of the themes that will be explored.
