Categories : Exhibitions and Museums, published on : 2/15/17

The Museum of Romantic life in the heart of the ninth arrondissement of Paris is exclusively devoted to passionate fine arts and romanticism. An inspired choice for couples, the museum offers many unique and intimate moments.

A place from another time

Thanks to the delicate charm of the 19th century, writers, painters and artists knew how to celebrate love nicely and the Museum of Romantic Life in the heart of the Nouvelle Athènes district is a must-see. The museum was founded in the 19th century in the Hotel Scheffer-Renan, the former home of Dutch painter Ary Scheffer and it is dedicated to the icons of the Romantic period.  Inaugurated in 1987, it organises exhibitions and workshops centred on some of the century’s most illustrious painters, writers, poets and artists. Until January 29th, 2017, the site hosts a major exhibition devoted to Baudelaire with a presentation of works by leading artists of the time such as Delacroix, Ingres, Corot and Georges Sand.

The romantic period of the XIXth century

The building is also a special place and its 19th century workshops, gardens and courtyard of the 19th century provide artistically minded couples with a refined setting where they can enjoy exceptional events and exhibitions. The institute of Romantic Life is supported by many notable writers and musicians today, and it is home to various unique, one-of-a-kind objects. It has an extensive collection of objects and pieces of furniture that belonged to George Sand as well as collections from other writers and artists. Sculptures, medallions and other pieces from its many collections can be seen in the ground floor salons of the Hotel Scheffer-Renan.
